My friend uses a verizon wireless adapter to receive internet service in a rural area.?

My friend uses a verizon wireless adapter that she plugs into her laptop to receive internet connecftion in a rural area. I bought a NETGEAR N150 Wireless USB Adapter for my home computer but cannot connect to the internet out here in the country. The NETGEAR connected to the internet immediately when I used it in the city and worked great. Is there any way to set my NETGEAR settings so it will pick up her verizon internet connection? We are in the same house.
