Country music in Alberta, Canada?

I'm from Texas and I just discovered a great country band and went on to learn that they are from somewhere in Alberta, Canada. I was just wondering if Alberta was anything like Texas. In most rural parts of Texas there are wheat fields stretching along the highway, every man wears a cowboy hat, and everyone loves country music. (These are just the more "country" parts of Texas, not all of Texas is like that). I was just wondering if there are any areas in Alberta that are similar to that. Or what "defines" country there.
